Chapter
âSon of a fucking bitch!â Grant screamed from the bathroom.
âWhat the hell is wrong with you?â I burst through the door agitated with his vulgarity.
To be honest, I had been struggling to keep from being agitated with everything about him. Iâd hardly slept a wink the night before. The mere sound of his breaths as he slept kept me from finding my own sleep. It wasnât his fault and I knew he didnât understand why I had been so short tempered with him. I was trying to be more patient and attentive to him but I was failing miserably. The timing of his acceptance to go to New York couldnât have been better. I needed to be alone.
I realized I was standing in rising water as it filled the bathroom floor and spilled out into the hallway.
âShit. Shit. Shit.â He frantically fought to reach the water shut off valve behind the commode. The picture of his naked butt as he bent over was not the sight I wanted to see before my first cup of coffee.
âI donât have time for this shit this morning.â He stood up to face me.
I believe I may have winced as I held a towel out in front of me. âWhat happened?â
âDo I look like a plumber to you?â
âNo, actually right now you look like an asshole to me.â
He snatched the towel from my hand and wrapped it around his waist. âNice, Rayne. Very nice.â He sloshed pass me. âMy plane leaves in three hours. Iâm going to my place to get dressed.â
âAre you serious? Youâre leaving me like this?â
He turned in the hallway. âWhat do you expect me to do?â
âHey, I donât know. Hereâs a novel thought. Why donât you act like a boyfriend and stay to help me get my plumbing taken care of?â
âMaybe if you acted like a girlfriend sometime, I would feel more impelled to act like a boyfriend.â He walked into the bedroom but stepped back to peer around the doorjamb. âOr, hey, better yet since were fucking engaged, maybe you could act like a fiancé sometime. Wouldnât that be a grand idea?â He shed his towel and jerked his clothes on over his body.
âWhat the hell does that mean?â
âIâm leaving today for three or maybe even four months. I spend my last night with you thinkingâ¦I donât know, that we may act like a couple about to be separated for three months. Youâre so freakinâ frigid all of the time that even last night I couldnât get a little.â
âGet a little? Did you seriously just say that to me?â
He stepped quickly to stand in front of me. âI sure as hell did.â His breath was hot against my face. The smell of toothpaste followed. âI canât even remember the last time weâve had sex. You act repulsed when I touch you but I thought last night, surely last night, we could be together. I shouldnât have to jerk off as much as I do when I have a fiancé.â
âWell, what do you know folks.
